David Gregory is not the man-in-the middle. He's obviously a Republican and I am VERY distressed that Keith and Chris are being humiliated like this. They are two brilliant men who deserve MORE time on the air than they are getting.

Keith and Chris do deserve for air time, actually we deserve THEM. I no longer watch ABC, CBS, CNN or NBC. Too much bias. Gone are the days when we get the whole story.

Republicans whining about msnbc coverage being biased. I have never heard them whine about Fox (so called) news not being "fair and balanced" as advertised. I am sorry but I thought Keith and Chris did an outstanding job on both conventions. The Republicans just need to stop whining and try to win a "fair" election for once!

I'll certainly miss Mathews and Olbermann. Yes, they lean left of middle, and that was refreshing and made cable "fair and balanced" considering Murdoc's Fox News. NBC caved in to pressure from the Republican party...and that's a shame. Well, they lost this viewer.

It is a shame that Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann have been pulled from anchoring any of the remaining live political coverage on MSNBC. My family and I have greatly enjoyed their wit and commentary.

I do understand that personal views have no place in reporting the "actual news" but there is no station on cable or local networks, where the news is not spattered with the "truly biased opinions" of many of those that are doing the reporting.

I feel that managements decision to remove Chris and Keith is a knee jerk reaction to the play that CNN and possibly others gave to the personality conflicts of all parties involved.
A simple admonishment would have been just fine. Why risk loosing viewership???

It is habit for me to switch back and forth betwenn MSNBC and CNN. But now on political nights, my channel will be stuck on CNN.

That is unfortunate for MSNBC and the fans of both Chris and Keith

Moronic???Finally we get someone w/ the smarts to oppose the right-wing Fox channel and the MORONIC Billow and his ilk. I hardly think Olbermann is moronic. Wrong word, schweetie. Olbermann and Rachel Maddow are the SOLE reasons I watch MSNBC. Keith's show was the highlight of every day. MSNBC folded...but what else is new? I'm VERY disappointed!

Gregory is a registered Democrat. He just doesn't make overt comments. It is the role of a news show to impassionately present the information. Commentators and analysts make opinion. When Tom Brokaw (Spelling) makes it known that there should be a change then it would be wise to heed his word. (By the way, he leans left as well)

On a side bar, I am disappointed that there has been no discussion of any third party candidate. Real changed and innovative ideas would come from a non-affiliated citizen. George Washington would be appalled by our current political climate.

Hell, Faux-News is the Pravda of the GOP.

I, too, am totally distressed as to the demotion of Olberman and Matthews. They are so smart? What is MSNBC thinking?
I hope they resign and go over to CNN.
They dropped Abrams, Carlson, who they should drop is Scarbourgh but why Olberman and Matthews for telling the truth. Remember Scarbourgh supporting Hilton Clinton and practically crying on the show over her and he claims to be a Republican.
David Gregory doesn't have the fire Olberman and Matthews have, no way.
Nor does Chuck Todd, they should get rid of Pat Buchanan, omg he is so annoying.
MSNBC you will officially loose all the ratings you have.
Even Nora O'Donnell and especially Andriana Mitchell are both better than David Gregory and man he is hard to look at.

I am utterly outraged! My husband & I watched a conservative, brainwashing Fox News football game yesterday, and Foxes play-by-play announcer even got a a free plug in promoting the red-neck, so-embarrassing Palin. Fox football! Bad enough the brainwashers' control everything about free elections, free press and the American drones minds!

How utterly un-American and soooo Hitler. Each day, this nation grows less like a democracy and more like a mind-controlling freak show. Yep, Fox can shovel its garbage into the brainwashed drones minds because its freedom of the media, but let another station attempt to even the odds, and suddenly America has become a Repubdamocracy!

Long before America got Bush, I told my husband that this nation was moving to a one-party system. America, it is time we stood up for Keith & Chris. Hit em in the pocketbooks. Boycott, em until we get our nation back! A one party system led by low IQ's and intellectual rednecks and human garbage is brainwashing Americans for a one party rule system.

The one, most vital thing in America that is not free, is the American mind; it is carefully controlled and manipulated. Freedom! What a travesty; what a farce. BOYCOTT! The playing field has not been level for years, now. Insist they play fair!

IT'S CALLED A *DEMOTION*.

And it's embarrassing and humiliating.

But?

These two losers deserve it. LMFAO!

Bye Keith! Bye Chris!

It's that simple.

Olbermann is absolutely NO anchor. Doesn't have the right stuff. And it's not even close. Zero credibility and the guy comes across as a total dork.

Matthews is a foolish drooler. But not as bad obviously as Olbermann.

The two of them act like grade-school irrational morons.

These two idiots shouldn't have been put in those positions in the first place.

Good Riddance!

I totally agree. Matthews and Olbermann are terrific, the best newsmen on the air.
They deserve the best block of time, and never stifle them. They are liberal, sure,
and I respect them for it. They are honest and trustworthy; unlike the other side
that likes to bully and lie. Never, never, would we want McCain or Palin to be in

Keith and Chris---you have my support and I never missed your show.

Well, well, looks like the Republicans have put the finishing touches on buying our country lock, stock, and barrel. They got the judicial, legislative, executive branches of government and now they have the entire news media---Palin took care of the library situation with book banning. The 'big oil' party had the Fox propaganda channel and all we had was about 2 hours of programming.

The MSNBC Heads are not worth the millions they are paid because if they were, they would stand up to the War Criminals running this country and shove our Constitutional Amendments down their throats and let our FREE SPEECH rain across this land. Are the heads of MSNBC relatives of Hitler?

Watch out democrats, the Repubs will bring the trains in next for the free thinking citizens and ship us off to Alaska to work the oil wells as slave labor and reprogramming.

I honestly believe, America saw it last honest election when President Clinton was elected for his second term. The rats have taken over and now it is time to abandon ship folks. We free thinkers had better start banding together to march on Washington to salvage what is left of our Charters of Freedom or see how much real estate cost in Canada or Down-under.

Bring back Keith and Chris! I am so sick and tired of the media kowtowing and caving into the Republican establishment's corrupt tactics of silencing all criticism of them and their policies, and trying to eliminate all voices which try to counter their 1984 style of doublespeak and manipulation. This cowering of the media before the dogs resulted in near total approval to both the Iraq war and the associated public opinion manipulation campaign through the 2004 election.

WHEN YOU HAVE A PARTY THAT HAS NO SCRUPLES ABOUT DISTORTING THE TRUTH AND APPEALING ONLY TO THE VOTERS' MOST BASE AND SIMPLISTIC INCLINATIONS, BLAND NEUTRALITY IS TANTAMOUNT TO COMPLICITY!

Bring them back!

Just another example of a lack of tolerance by right wing conservatives. They can't allow anyone to disagree with them! David Gregory will tickle their ears like a canary with the precise lyrics that they want to hear. It's getting scary here in what used to be America. We no longer have a right to lawful assembly and we no longer have the right to an opposing voice. The 16 - 25 year olds are scared as hell about the future.

MSNBC should be allowed to put anyone on the air they choose for commentary. I don't watch MSNBC because of Obermann, but that is my choice. At least Obermann doesn't try to hide his bias, as Matthews does. I think Fox is more "fair" than MSNBC, and that shows my bias.

As far as whining? Seems that is coming most from those who feel their ox has been gored. Get over it and watch whichever cable network you choose, but don't try to say that Matthews and Obermann were "news anchors" because they weren't. They were partisan advocates - which is their right! Kind of like Rush and Shawn, right?

Obermann was uncomfortable with the "news anchor" label anyway. He will still be able to be DNC surrogate as a commentator and that's just fine with me, because I just don't watch MSNBC (but they have a better web site than FOX)!

Viva Free Speech. but at least try to keep it honest!

You know i am very unhappy about what MSNBC has done. You know its bad when they keep morning Joe going because he is a republican. But then again that is alright with MSNBC. Then you get Pat B. he is a republican. So if msnbc wants all republican. Let them have it. MSNBC is Bias about what was said. I bet if democrate party showed and did the samething. Morning Joe would said the samething as Chris and Keith said. Nothing wouldn't happen to him, all because he is a republican. What happen to free speech? Oh wait republicans can use it. But not us democrates. Sad day for sure.

Keith Olbermann was the only individual who would say on air what most Americans are really thinking regarding Bush and his cohorts. He was truly a breath of fresh air in a sea of political pablum. It's ironic that the conservatives constantly harp about the biased liberal media when their viewpoint is the predominant one being preached on the airwaves. I loathe Fox and its hypocrisy. On the one hand it's the banner carrier for the right-wing Republican viewpoint; on the other, it's a network with the most tawdry and indecent programming on the air, constantly trying to one-up the major networks by displaying the most flesh and pushing the FTC censors to the limit. Such a hypocritical display of banality.

I am so distressed by Keith and Chris being removed. I don't get it. The Republicans have FOX. No matter what you say, you cannot call FOX fair and balanced - not after they called the fist bump the Obama's shared a "terrorist" signal. And, they called Michelle Obama - Obama's Babies Mama. The only ones who called FOX on that was Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. These two were wonderful at the conventions! I think this is the result of pressure from the right. According to the article, Keith and Chris are in agreement with this decision. I'd like to hear it from them. No more MSNBC for me. Hey, Chris & Keith, maybe CNN has a spot for you. I too am shocked at the decision to change Chris Matthews and Keith Oberman from the Political team....

I find their passion refreshing and one of the main reasons that I watch MSNBC rather than CNN or others....

I believe that they have just really damaged their coverage by the change and I for one will be watching the results on CNN rather than the bland same old coverage from all the others remaining......

WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE !!!!

I'll miss their coverage of the election too but, I have to admit that I already knew that it wasn't going to last for long. Not because of MSNBC or even because of pressure that was eventually going to hit from the Right Wing but because, let's face it folks; with that much crap being shoveled around it was only a matter of time before Keith or Chris finally snapped. Personally? I'm just glad they had the restraint not to throttle the nearest lie-mongering neck they got their hands around!

I mean, come on guys, let's face the facts, one of the reasons why we LOVE Olbermann is because of his by now FAMOUS inability to handle the more blatant loads that the GOP try to shovel and the loads don't GET any bigger then at the RNC. Granted, I love him too but that was NOT a really good combination! Of course, it's kind of fun watching the fire in the old 'works factory from a nice safe distance- but part of it has to be a relief for them because I doubt it's QUITE so enjoyable at ground zero.

And well, at least their shows are still on and Maddow has one of her own now- so at least our evenings aren't totally trashed at anyrate.

i think that this move is ridiculous and just shows how weak the liberals/dems look in comparison to the republicans. fox "news" says whatever they want, whenever they want (which is obviously biased towards conservatives and is anything but fair and balanced). olbermann hosts msnbc's highest rated show, and they want to put david gregory?! yea, they may be biased, but so what? someone needs to compete against fox "news" and represent progressive values. and by the way, they place plenty of guests from both sides of the aisle.

to sum it up, put olbermann and matthews back as the anchors. stand your ground MSNBC and stop giving in to these right wing crazies!

I don't think that name calling does any one any good. Having an honest discussion about issues and our differences is fine, but hurling insults doesn't solve anything. I do think that may be the reason Mr. Olbermann was moved; he can come across as insulting and rude and it is not the image that needs to be portrayed by MSNBC. As to Chris Matthews, I have always enjoyed watching him, but he can also come across as rude. As to FOX, they are not the issue here. We are discussing decisions MSNBC made, so who cares what FOX does? I, for one, am glad that Mr. Olbermann will no longer be anchoring the political coverage. I enjoy watching Mr. Gregory and he is always very calm and thoughtful. Kudos to MSNBC on what I believe to be a great move and I hope that it will attract more viewers for you.

MSNBC has always been wonderful to watch because of Keith O. He is open and logical and tells it like it is. When Fox News, which is blatantly conservative, puts pressure on him, he would come right out and tell the truth about what they were doing. He was right to express sorrow at the RNC exploitation of 9/11. Many of us felt it, and were glad to hear him express our feelings on the air. Too bad the network crumpled under the right-wing control. SO sad.

I am a conservative and Independent. I don't like Bush or the war. I like straight news that tells me what someone said or did (no spin). But Olbermann and Matthews are so one sided. Yes Hannity and Colms are also. And often the tone of the hosts leans right. But with the exception of Hannity (which I do not like) none of them are as arrogant and Olbermann and less with Matthews. The real point is that none of the FNC folks are commenters in debates. I know that FNC has more opposing guest at the same time as they have conservatives. You can never say that about Olbermann.

Personally, I always thought Chris Matthews was Republican, since he publicly endorsed Rudy Juliani for President while on the air, long before any of the candidates announced they were seeking the Presidential nomination. Chris' brother Jim (who sought public office in my hometown) is also Republican. But anyhow, it makes no difference what party Chris subscribes to. I have always enjoyed his smart, quick and thoughtful interviewing style, as well as his unique personality and laugh.

Keith Olberman is my HERO. He is a passionate advocate for the truth, in a world filled with darkness and deceit. I absolutely love him!

But for the grace of God, my only hope is that the repositioning (or whatever you want to call it) of Chris and Keith has not been the result of any pressure, coersion, partisanship, or political maneuver in any way whatsoever, on the part of the MSNBC powers, their affiliates, or anyone associated with any of them.

Otherwise, we can bank on a repeat of the 2000 Election this coming November, a collapse of the entire political structure of this country, and God knows what will happen next.

Well Marylin, I think your left wing is showing. Olbrmann is a strong advocate, for his own opinion, not anyone who disagrees with him, or has another idea, or truth, just his opinions and those who share it. It's not news, it's opinion, and OPINION only, don't cover it up with a news title when it's not. It's the poor ratings that caused them to be pulled, Americans don't want to be told what to think, and while fox may be titled as a right tilted news channel, atleaset they contrast Sean Hannity with Alan Colmes so that most issues are shown from both sides. Not Mathews and Olbermann though, one-sided to the end. That's why they were pulled, not repositioned, not so they can be unrestrained as news anchors, because lets be serious, they have never been and can never be now, news reporters.

Bank on a repeat of 2000 ??? You must mean an undermining of our political system by a person who forgot that voters don't actually elect the president, that there is an electoral college that votes for the president. Also, that Gore changed the entire poltical system by changing who decides the presidency when it is diputed like in 1824 when Adams and Jackson tied for the electoral votes, and even though Jackson had the higher popular vot, Adams got the presidency ??????????

Gore wasn't the only person to get the majority of the popular vote and lose the presidency, Andrew Jackson won the popular vote but lost the election to John Quincy Adams (1824); Samuel J. Tilden won the popular vote but lost the election to Rutherford B. Hayes (1876); Grover Cleveland won the popular vote but lost the election to Benjamin Harrison (1888); Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the election to George W. Bush (2000).

I agree with getting rid of Keith. He is obviously biased and would not be able to contain it over the campaign period. Chris could hide his bias a little better than Keith, but he does get gushy when talking of Obama. I disagree that MSNBC should be a network to counteract FOX's bias towards republicans. I want news. I want to see both sides. (Wolf B. does a good job). I certainly don't want to watch a cheerleading type report that FOX does during their "fair & balanced" news.

Oberman and Mathews was the only real left of center commentary on the political scene so now we have Gregory who is sure right of center. We need to Bitch and I did by writing to NBC.

I agree that David Gregory is definitely not the "man in the middle". Every evening it takes a lot for me and my husband to watch Race for the White House because of his leaning toward the republicans. Chris and Keith brought a lot of excitment to MSNBC's politcal coverage. I have been a big fan of MSNBC, but am very disappointed in their decision. I guess I will have to hold my nose and start watching CNN's coverage! :(
As for MSNBC, they are lying saying that their decision was not influenced by those who are trying to control the media. I smell a big republican rat!

Chris Matthewsw WAS a Republican...once and a long time ago...he got 30 pieces of sil;ver from MSNBC and has forgotten his roots...roots that GAVE him all that he has today..can you really believe he can be considered a JOURNALIST??? NOT when you OPENLY CHEER for someone...especially ON THE AIR!! PLEASE...I don't know how old you may be but I recall when Ronald Reagan was running for President...NONE of the reporters and journalists CHEERED...NONE...they reported the news and that was IT. And if ANYONE deserves cheers, it was Ronald Reagan...I just thank God that FOX has BOTH Democrats AND Republicans on at the same time and an equal amount of each...not the tricks MSNBC or CNN pull...their bias against Republicans is plainly CLEAR and without doubt...if a reporter wishes to express his/her opinion that's fine BUT within REASON!!! And for ANYONE to think it's a Republican thing that those two (Bonehead-erman/Matt-headews)
were the target of Republicans...let me let you in on a tiny (no BIG item) the Liberals/Democrats control 97% of the news media (including MSNBC!!!!!!!!).
Do your math and homework...you'll find it's true!!!! They went WAY to FAR and they got what was coming to them so suck it up folks!!!! SOMETIMES there IS Justice in this world!!!!

              Doris and all,

Throughout history politicians, teachers and media personalities have been able to steer the truth to their cause, influence a generation of fresh young minds hungry for change not knowing what it means, just that it sounds cool. Keith was funny as a sportsguy, but so is Terry Bradshaw. His rise to fame was becuase he is unbelievably calous and has a close minded view of the right. How can we call it news when it us peppered with hate and one liners that only Bill Mahr would be proud of? Chris has always been fair, I thought, too but in this election, you can't even watch CNBC without the hint of political facvoring. Are we telling stories here or delivering information for informed educated citizens to better determine how to cast their vote? Shame on everyone that thinks news is a place to be influenced. If you want entertainment, read the funnies or watch MTV. MSNBC, CNN and the like need to get back to the honor of news and leave the political discussions for watchers, Washington and celebrities.
I believe we are overdue for a change and this seems to be a good start!

Matthews got the shaft. He at least tries to give some objective opinions. He certainly doesn't attempt to hide his bias toward Obama.

Olberman on the other hand is the liberal male equivalent to Ann Coulter. He's as far left as he can get. He has a man-crush on Obama and Biden and NEVER has ANY criticism of Democrats or Democratic candidates.

Get Real!! You can't really believe that Olberman is objective in any sense of Journalism. He should have stuck to Sports, preferably in a small local venue somewhere far from my viewing area.

Shame on NBC. These two are the best host of a news program (Convention coverage) on TV. I admit that they are pro Obama so NBC wants to replace them with a PRO REPUBLICAN. Almost every news outlet is far right of center and FOX (FIXED) NO-NEWS is the right arm of the Republican party. I'm tired of the media being so scared of King George and his Organized Crime Family. Freedom of the press - BU@!$%#. I only paid for more than basic cable TV so I could watch them. Well MSNBC will lose me as a viewer. Our news medias are becoming so much like PRAVDA showing only what the Right Wing Government want us to see. I never thought that I would give more that a quarter of a century defending my country just to see some home grown @!$%#S steal our America.

I only watch MSNBC for Chris and Keith (altho I'm glad to see that Rachel now has her own show). It is unfortunate that MSNBC has chosen to try and Silence the Freedom of Speech Voices. It is apparent that Fox is Pro Republicans... they give Obama no support nor respect. It appears that the Republican Party is just like a Terrorist Group, i.e., if you do not see things their way, then they have No Use for you....This team was giving Obama's message as Obama meant them to be. Fox and other news stations are misrepresenting and intentionally misinterpreting whatever he says or does. I do not see Fox trying to Balance the views by adding someone who would give equal fair press to Obama.

The MSNBC Executive Staff must get some Backbone... If your ratings are growing the way they stated in the Article, then why are the trying to "Fix something that is Not Broken"....

It is sad when news and even politics have to have a left/right slant to them. The personal opinions/ bias of the reporters have no place in news/politics. They should report in a fair and unbiased way.

Unfortunately this will never happen again. Those days are long gone and have been (I'd say) since the late 60's early '70's when the very liberal media really came into power.

The article said that Keith was uncomfortable covering the Republican Convention, gee, I wonder why?? He has described his show as Op-Ed, which is no different than Limbaugh. His discomfort was due to his role of doing more straight up reporting which he isn't capable of. He and Matthews, no matter how hard they deny it, or as biased as any of the pundits on Fox. They both had a great deal to do in swaying Democrats toward Obama during the primaries. Hardly a show they did wasn't without bias toward Clinton. When Obama finally accepted the Party nomination, watching MSNBC, I thought Chris was going to break down and cry at what he called the greatest moment in this Country's History. An inexperienced politician, who has been running for President since his "great" speech at the 2004 convention. With Hillary having so much experience they, evidently thought her run wasn't as historical. I would like to not see them or hear them for the next 2 months, in fact, it would be fine if they never had another show aired. Keith will probably need another sports show when Bush leaves office, he won't have any one to hate. Maybe he could move to Crawford. Yes, I know I can tune in to another network, which I have started doing. The real show these two should be on is with Hannity and O'Reilly, can't you just feel the love these four would generate. It would be a historic event for having 4 A- - holes together at one time. Some are saying that there is too much conservative reporting on the Networks, that we need a liberal point of view. I have as little respect for Fox as I do MSNBC, what I consider wrong with both is that they are biased. We need honest factual reporting to help us make rational choices between two Parties' candidates.

But remember that they are supposed to not have any bias at all as new "anchors". Anchors report the news across the board. People like Hannity and Limbaugh are not anchors, they are there for their opinion. Now KO and Matt will have that opportunity to voice their opinion. You should still watch them. For those of you that are upset with them being "moved" because its a supposed balance to Fox news, you should watch them for that slant you agree with. You should be watching anchors for news...if you want their left based opinion, then watch their opinion based shows.

Of course Olbermann is biased! That's his appeal. He speaks the truth when the Neocons can only be counted on for lies, deceit, theft and illegal wars. I have no interest in what Brent Bozell says, wants, needs, feels or thinks.

MSNBC is not thinking clearly in my judgement. Olbermann is central to their ratings success. And there is a significant portion of the American public that's sick of the lies and deceit that assume we're idiots and only God Fearing Republicans have any sense.

There is a wide spectrum of beliefs in our diverse nation. If that pig murdoch and his bootblack Roger Ailes can foist their criminal lies on us with abandon, then I'd like MSNBC to understand that there are people who want Olbermann badly and sneer with disgust and contempt at those who claim he's 'too much' becuase he tells the truth.

And the truth is damn hard to comeby these days. And it's a lot more important than what News Management considers 'proper, appropriate, decent broadcasting'. we're fighting for the life of our nation against a cabal of blackguards and murderers, war criminals and treasonists in high office. Left wing bias? THere isn't enough!!!!!

Wake UP MSNBC management. Rethink what you've done. Keith is more important to us than you are. If he leaves. We leave.

Now, six corporations own the media. Soon, tv will be the same biased, slanted, brainwashing and mind-control that is today's radio-free America. America, do you truly believe all the mind-control corporate America has been feeding you all your lives?

When I was a young man ;-) and interviews were conducted, the journalist acted as a fact checker. He studied up on who he was interviewing and if he found a discrepancy in what they were saying, he called him on it, right then, right there. Now, we call it fair and balanced if two people are being interviewed at the same time and the journalist acts only as a traffic cop; no fact checking involved. So you wind up with someone on the far left and someone on the far right going at it and talking over each other and both of them lying for their side and no one in the middle saying, "Hey, wait a minute."

That doesn't serve the public good, but it makes for 'journalism' that more resembles professional wrestling.

RP, the point you made about news anchors is what I tried to make about Matthews and Olbermann. MSNBC by using them as "Anchors" for the Conventions was promoting them as political experts, implying they would analysis the political events without an agenda. Their convention team was to be the best at dissecting the two parties platforms. MSNBC made every effort to promote the two as "Anchors" for the reporters mingling with the delegates. News was what they were supposed deliver, not their slanted opinions. It's a down right shame that Olbermann didn't "Anchor" from the Republican Convention, it would have been a sight to see and hear when he tried to be impartial toward the Republicans. I'm sure the convention attendees would have welcomed him as one of their very own. When selecting the Worst Person, he should look no further than a mirror. He has successfully undermined Dan Abrams, helping his protege Maddow to take his spot. He has cut off the guests he doesn't agree with. He is attempting to have Scarborough replaced and he has ruined what reputation NBC news had left. Williams, Brokaw, Mitchell, Todd, and the other journalists are having a difficult time defending their Network. Olbermann is one who divides not one who unites. Every place he has been employed has eventually fired him. There's an old adage" everybody likes a little smart a— — some of the time, but nobody likes one all the time." Give an idiot a stage and he thinks he's Shakespear.

                              Proudliberal,

Watched your video link. Very cinematic, a waste of time, but well done. War is ugly, but having an "Intellectual" in the white house isn't going to stop it from happening, I'm afraid.

If you are thinking that an intellectual wouldn't ever take us to war, you're sadly mistaken.

David Gregory a Republican, not in this lifetime. He's a Washington reporter that has held Bush's feet to the fire for quite sometime. I feel sorry for him trying to keep the other two in check as it appears Matthews and Olberman have lost it and are in need of a vacation. Bravo MSNBC for putting a leash on them!!

I agree... I was beginning to believe that Olbermann & Mathews were going to demand a name change from MS National Broadcasting Company to MS National Barack Company...particularly Mathews after that "chill up his leg."

Olbermann is right up there with O'Reilly and has a place on such a show, that way I can CHOOSE whether or not I want to hear his rants and raves.

I'll look forward to getting my NEWS from Gregory.

Gregory = REPUBLICAN =YES. No one in the national media other than Olbermann and lately Mathews has stood up to these republicans and their destruction of our "Freedom of the Press" for a long long time. Demand that the Fairness Doctrine be brought back and let all "News Networks" know that America is fed up with their SHOVING the Right Wing's Agenda Down America's throat.

The attempt at unbiased reporting is just that - an attempt. The reality is that the anti-american, socialist, Muslim Sympathy Network (MSN) should just stop trying to claim they are anything other than a schill for Obama.

Wow Muslim Sympathy Network - what does the BC stand for? If Hilary was the democratic candidate, would it still be the Muslim Sympathy Network? Or would it be something witty (actually an attempt at wit), involving women's rights. The Obama-Muslim card has been played. It doesn't work.

Anti-American, socialist network? Socialist countries don't allow the press to criticize the president. We're lucky that we have the right for our press to say what they want.

Your right we do have the right to voice our opinions, but it also does not matter..they do what they want. Say Country first and well we could invade any country we choose to, a lot like Russia just did and Germany did in the late 30's. Country first...and we all become blind for some reason.

I meet a Russian once, he said in my country we cannot say what we wish, so we cannot change anything. In your country you can say what you wish, but it does not change anything...so in the end we are both in the same boat.

Is Fox the freedom of expression and freedom of the American mind network? Gee, I thought Fox was the conservative, Republican brainwashing machine for all of America's least enlightened, least aware and most brainwashed drones, representing the Americans with the lowest IQ's.

Before escaping beyond all the brainwashing and the carefully, controlled societal voices, the individual has to possess a modicum of intelligence and consciousness. Therefore, Fox is the Facist Network for all the brainwashed, drone worker bees. Remember, the Germans loved and adored Hitler, and the mind-control made them happy and content.

It takes physical energy to actually be able to think outside that old, tired and worn box. The Fox Facist network and the propaganda they spew to make Americans happy but ignorant. Everyday, this nation moves closer to a one party system because the brainwashers and those controlling your thinking have all the money, and in this damocracy, money is power and everything.

Keith Olbermann and Chris Mattews, along with Rachel Maddow are the only TV journalists who have been able to tell the truth. It is cleansing and refreshing to hear their comments, after listening to the other networks praise Palin without question. They should be left in their current positions, to counter the pandering from Fox "news".

the only TV journalists who tell the truth? they were Anchors! they never ever just said the truth, they threw in their two cents every time. And if you agree with them, cool..now they get a chance to rant just like you can..in an opinion...not while reporting news. Hannity and Limbaugh, that someone earlier was complaining about, arent anchors, they have opinion shows and look how powerful they got! you should be happy they can do that now, right?

These comments are the typical banter of the left and the right back and forth. Please let's all check the facts before speaking. Both sides speak out of both sides of their mouths. Anytime you bring such an impassioned attitude into pragmatic things, such as governance, you make irrational decisions and statements. This happens on both sides of the aisle. Being independent, I have the opportunity to look at both sides and see the inaccuracies. I think everyone would be better off to investigate the truth, not just drink the water because its poisoned from both sides of the bank. Anything less is intellectually dishonest and is not worthy of being commented on.

But after all the Republicans should be very careful in being rude to the press. They put somebody up for our countries VP who calls herself a pittbull with lipstick. How low did we get and how disgusting for all the hockey moms.

This is a BIG FAT example of the rightwing trying to remove the only liberal reporting out there. It's fascism, pure and simple. Can you imagine the uproar from the neocons if Obama refused interviews unless they are pre-scripted OR he gets to pick the questions, as Gov. Palin will in the only interviews she will grant?

Obama had the GUTS to sit down with uber-neocon Bill O'Reilly. But McLAME and Palin are COWARDS who want to control every media outlet to make sure no one finds out what their true platform is.

I am disgusted with MSNBC's decision. Totally and utterly DISGUSTED. Why don't you just hand the presidency to MCLame already and be done with it?

And may I add Campbell Brown and Andrea Mitchell who I used to think didn't have my best interests. What is so wrong with asking tough questions during this day and time? Of course Palin would call the Media/Press "elite." She's afraid of them. God forbid she make have to answer some questions about something she knows nothing about! A BS in journalism doesn't educate you much.

I agree 100%. Why is it that FIX NEWS with their well known and right-wing neo-nazi propaganda gets to do their crap "news" reporting and if anyone else has the slightest leaning other wise can't. This is BS. CNN is just driven by ratings and have turned worse and worse every year. Hey MSNBC execs: do you wonder why your network has grown so rapidly during the last few years? It is because of people like me that do not have anything else that I can trust. I like Gregory, but he is not Keith or Chris. Please do not give in to the right wing conservative, they are already prancing about that this is a victory for them and it works towards the run for the White House. Keith and Chris are the only anchors that I trust. Please don't make me stop watching MSNBC, but if it bends to the will of the conservatives, then it is not better than FIX News.

Censorship? Nice try. They're still allowed to say whatever they want to say, just as MSNBC has the right to use whichever newscasters they choose. No one has taken away their right to free speech, just the right to say it on camera on MSNBC.

Apparently there were a lot of viewers that didn't appreciate their ultra-liberal perspective. Networks are concerned about the numbers, period. If enough people don't like what they're airing, they will change. It's all about ratings, which is what drives their advertising dollars. If no one's watching, companies will not pay to advertise on that network.

James: Keep drinking the FOX/ RNC Kool-Aid dude!!! So the "Liberal Media" is ABC,NBC,CBS, & CNN with MSNBC getting a special new neo-con tag Socialist Media??

You RNC twits crack me up... the media & DNC are the evil-doers (to quote your hero "W") Funny how your group seems to dream about ONE party & government control over the media. Throw in recycling Ronald Reagan's economic policies (20+ years past their prime) & you have America resemble the old U.S.S.R. (what McCain still calls Russia...)

the RED Party (& States) indeed!!!!!!

I agree with Helen. I actually cried tonight when I heard this reported by that hypocritical Lou Dobbs. His whole show was about how the liberal media has gotten out of hand and unfairly attacked Palin! I couldn't believe my ears. People are being spoon fed this $%#&*!!! that we are somehow not entitled to question this self professed pit bull who wants to be VP! Don't pit bulls eat their young? She scares me. She would set the women of this country so far back! I think about how much I did to protect my children and teach them right from wrong but here is this maniac in a photo with her young daughter drooling over the carcass of a caribou she had just killed. Talk about your mommy dearest! I suspect that God has grown tired of our country which no longer stands up for those in need. The only reason Obama is in not 20 points ahead is because of the absolute hatred in this country! They don't see him for the brilliant man he is but rather some black man trying to sit in the front of the bus! Our absolute only source of an opposing view from the Republicans is now gone. I will definitely join in the boycott of MSNBC.

All you that are whining about nobody asking McCain/Palin tough questions should just stop and ask yourself why after 19 months nobody will ask Sen. Obama anything. Wright, Resko, Ayers, Farrakan - no answers to these because nobody will EVEN ask the questions.

Oh and ileen--leinick enough with YOUR racism. The only ones playing the race card in this election are the dems.

Olberman & Matthews are still on their own shows where they are STILL free to spout their liberal bias just as Fox has Hannity. No Difference. A news anchor is supposed to report the news, not tell everyone they get a chill down their leg when someone speaks. You consider that unbiased reporting?

Matthews and Olbermann have caused my trust in MSNBC to be lost and as a result I have been forced to look elsewhere for my news coverage. As an independant voter looking to educate myself I am disgusted by their lack of professionalism in dealing with this election season. My two cents...

As a fellow independent, I, too, was disappointed in the coverage. It's obvious MSNBC and FOX both lean badly, and it is indicative of today's society that there are people throwing around slurs on this "informed" blog site. I encourage everyone to put their personal biases away long enough to recognize issues are never as simple as a politician tells. Let's all stop drinking the koolaid. This will be the first step for "change."

CM & KO are not anchors. They are known for their own shows--in which they are allowed to be opinionated. They don't know how to just report the news without throwing in their opinions. And to hell with anyone who doesn't agree with them. Matthews won't even let his guests finish a sentence. He asks a question and then butts in before the guest can finish. I haven't watched Keith for a long time--a little of Keith goes a long way. I can barely stand to watch him on Sunday Night Football. I miss Russert. And at least Gregory can report the news without putting in his 2 cents. Tom Brokaw is the best of them all and Brian Williams. They are a real newsmen. They just report what is happening. I couldn't stand the convention coverage. The pundits talked during the speeches! I finally changed to PBS. The Montana gov gave a good speech--but anyone watching MSNBC would have missed it. PBS and CSPAN showed all the speeches.
I don't watch FOX b/c it is so biased. Everyone knows it is. I have always watched MSNBC & NBC for unbiased reporting. But it just keeps going downhill. I just want someone to report what the candidates are doing/saying so I can form my own opinion. I don't need Keith or Chris to do it for me. I am glad they still have their own shows; and I am even happier that they won't be anchoring anymore. I may actually start watching MSNBC again.

I COMPLETELY agree with you, Harold. For some time now, I have stopped watching ABC, NBC and CBS for my TV News, simply because it is always obvious that in reporting news regarding our government or politics, these mainstream channels continue to support the Republican machine. I sometimes return to see if there is any difference, but always end up changing back to MSNBC. I have tried CNN but can't rely on an unbiased news report. FOX is something we watch when we want a good laugh.

                                    Thanks for your comments Harold!

The problem to those of you who shout about the "LIBERAL" media, is that anything slightly to the left of outright fascism (I'm giving you a gift and assuming you know the meaning of the word), is considered the dreaded "LIBERAL." So for my second request, please explain to us why large media corporations which stand to heavily benefit from supporting the Republican views on media ownership, taxation and repeal of the fairness doctrine EVER support a "liberal" agenda?

We'll all be waiting... probably for a very long time.

You are missing the point Harold. No one watches FOX News for unbiased reporting. Is there anyone in the world that doesn't know about FOX? MSNBC however has always had a much higher standard than FOX. I don't watch FOX so I don't care about O'Riley or the rest of the bunch. I do watch MSNBC b/c it used to be unbiased. KO & CM are entitled to their opinions on their shows. But they are not anchors. The person who thought it was a good idea to put them in anchor positions is a fool.

Fox is the RNC Propaganda Network, the other media is primarily lazy and will spout what they are fed.

Even PBS is shifting right now that they are taking FOX money. Telemundo here I come, at least they have unbiased video I can watch.

You don't have to worry, OLBERMANN, MADDOW, and MATTHEWS aren't being taken from you. They still have their shows, they just won't be used to promote their bias as News Anchors. You can still tune in and get all the liberal slant you want and if that doesn't make you happy, you can tune to Fox. Calling the decision GE and NBC made to move these two from anchoring, censorship, is ridiculous. NBC and GE have been getting an earful about these two and their so called truth in reporting. They need to HIRE Hannity, Limbaugh, and O'Reilly as a counter to Olbermann, Matthews, and Maddow, they could then buy the rights to Comedy Central. With the bias these 6 people report as truth, we need to hook them all up to a lie detector and scroll the truth across the screen when they speak. They are all fun to watch and listen to, the passion they exude when they are lying is like watching a Greek Tragedy. You can always tell when they are lying, their lips move. And here's today's news, the real news, as reported by your favorite liberal or conservative opinion editor. Tune in now for your daily fix of FICTION.

I the McCain - Palin ticket think the American public is to ignorant to notice this Little stunt they are sadly mistaken.

I like to ask McCain the self proclaim defender of freedom how is it that Fox can be totally on the Right side and no one gets shifted around but why did his party pressure MSNBC to shifted Oberman and Mathews just because they did not like it when they told the truth. McCain done like a true Bush twin.

                                      Steph,

Do you drive on socialist roads? Send your kids to socialist schools? Make use of the socialist postal service? Go to the socialist library?

Please. Your phobia is over the top. It's been shown that the happiest people on earth live in countries with mixed economies; meaning, a mixture of capitalism and socialism.

Maybe you're for unfettered capitalism, but it's killing the planet (and us along with it) and it's driving us over a cliff into depression. Unfettered capitalism, which it seems you favor, is great for the people on Wall St. but it doesn't work too well for the people on Main St.

The "unfettered capitalism" of the republican Neo Cons has shut down the competition and innovation of capitalism. Media consolidation has shut down free speech. MSNBC has only furthered that trend by this action. Big businesses owning our media limits what we are told if it is inconvenient to their board and stockholders - yet another consequence of "Unfettered Capitalism" and far right philosophy.

Oh, Linda, didn't you know. Fox is fair and balanced news, the mouthpiece, with their soothing, droning words that reflect everything that is realism in America, the good guys. If it isn't pregnant or about to become pg or doesn't wear a cross around its neck or parrot & chant the soothing propaganda, then it isn't free to be on tv.

Close your eyes, shut down your mind, wrap wool around the electrical brain synapses of your brain, turn on American Free tv and become a true, righteous, war-loving, mass murdering, Earth slaughtering, Holier than thou, American, the greatest and gravest war machine of all times & don't forget to wave ole glory, thump your chest and yodel after me, American free tv! Yes, Fox's the one, the only one! Hee Haw!

I've read the other media accounts, and have to say that I take each story with a grain of salt. I saw the tension between Keith and Chris during the DNC, it wasn't hard to miss. It also was glaringly obvious that Keith was in NY and Chris was in St. Paul for the RNC. Look, I'm an Olbermann fan since his days doing sports here in LA, and I thought he was absolutely correct to comment on the 9/11 video, as many in America were doing themselves after watching that complete mess, myself included.

I will miss them at the anchor positions, but they got us through the Primaries and the Conventions. I'll settle for that and anything else they have to offer. But I have to say, as much as I respect Tom Brokaw, I'm finding him harder and harder to watch these days. Anyone catch MTP yesterday?

Is any of this a surprise in the wake of Tim Russert's loss? Not at all...sad, but not surprising.

I can't believe MSNBC shunted Olberman and Matthews. Geez, they are a small number of journalists that are an alternative to FOX news and their BS!!! What are you guys at NBC doing? One of the main reasons I watch your news is for Olberman and Matthews and if you guys decide for expediency they will no longer have the roles they have, I won't watch. Guess I will have to go to boring CNN, but never FOX. Why has MSNBC bowed to the zealot right? These two anchors are the only ones who give Americans the straight story and their viewership is up. Big mistake for MSNBC. Is Olberman still gonna have his show? How about Matthews? I am sorely disappointed in this public humiliation to two truthful journalists. Shame on MSNBC!!! Shame.

It's obvious by your statement which party you support as it pretty much sums up the GOP's economic plan as well. The Irony involved is comical. The sad part is people like you actually exist. The Little people happen to be The Armed Forces as well as Police, Firefighters and Paramedics. Thank God(not conservative) they do not share this opinion. You should Obtain A CT(Cat-Scan) to actually verify you have a brain. This is exactly why you party has it's negative stereotype

Steve, get a grip. Just because you have a closed-minded view of anyone who doesn't share your perspective doesn't mean you're the only one with a brain. I'm pretty sure Lauralou was being sarcastic (or she's a liberal - I don't know her) but give me a break.

I'm a conservative who has worked since the age of 16, put myself through school, scraped to buy a home and raise a family, and am what you would consider "little people". Much like the majority of my party, I might add. I could toss out quite a few stereotypes of liberals that may or may not apply to you, but I try not to lump everyone together like that. There are generous and stingy people on both sides of the aisle. There are open- and closed- minded people on both sides of the aisle. There are good and bad people on both sides of the aisle.

I switch back and forth between MSNBC and Fox so I can see what's going on from both points of view. Keith Olberman and Dan Abrams are as biased as Shawn Hannity on Fox is but Chris Matthews is as fair and balanced as Bill O'Reilly claims to be. It's a shame that MSNBC is removing him from the debates. I was looking forward to watching Chris handle it with integrity.

Don Abrams seems pretty darn Republican to me. And O'Reilly? He'll fall in the right side of anything and claim he's balanced. What a jerk. See this:

Chris has no integrity. He only has eyes for one party!! He is a very bias person. As for Keith, I would not waste my time discussing that jerk.

I seriously hope that the powers that be did not demote Keith and Chris. Keith especially, was one of the few that actually had a brain! Keith actually had the ability to see through the bullsh*t. Now this just confirms to me that NBC is in the pocket of the GOP. I thought that the rule of journalism was to be fair and report all FACTS, not just stating the GOPs press release over and over. I only watched MSNBC when Keith's show was on. And I only tuned into MSNBC for the conventions because I knew that Keith would give me the straight talk. I won't be watching MSNBC.

MSNBC and NBC's parent company is GE, the defense contractor who makes things more deadly than light bulbs (ie. nuclear triggers).

They're all for letting the liberals have their shows as long as it makes them money and doesn't cause them too much trouble, but as soon as their buddies start hollering, they return to their roots.

                                          Money and connections, talk.

                                          I shouldn't be surprised.

BTW Olbermann was so right when he made his statemen regarding 9/11.
That footage was in very poor taste. But that's McCain for you, he just LOVES anything to do with war!

I'm sorry you find the reminder of what our country is fighting for "in very poor taste". Unfortunately, there are many on the left who want to pretend 9/11 never happened. That we weren't attacked by Islamic Extremist Terrorists. That the threat doesn't still exist.

The rest of us understand that in order to ensure our country's future safety, we can never let the events of that day be forgotten. Much like the Jews and their Holocaust experience, we are saying "Never Again". And honoring the fallen is one way we do that.

McCain will be the first one to tell you he hates war. He has first-hand experience, as well as sons who are in harm's way. I know I'm probably not going to change your opinion of him, and you'll still vote for Obama on Nov. 4, and you'll continue to think Fox News is biased and "your guys" are fair & balanced, and that's your right as an American.

Just remember who it was that fought to give you those rights, and try to show a little respect.

Actually Denise, the entire world IS entitled to hear his opinions. It is our RIGHT to decide whether or not to listen to them. If you don't like Kieth or Chris, you are entitled to ignore them. I like them, Kieth especially (Sorry Chris, you are too confrontational for me most days), and I'm entitled to listen to them if I can a) find them, and b) I want to.

If you watch Countdown much, then you know that Kieth actually has personal commentary sections. He tells you that they are personal commentary, warns you throughout the show that he is going to have one at the end, etc. If you don't like his commentaries, then turn off the show when he gets there. You also know that he is democrat and liberal. I believe he has said as much. If you check his facts, though, he is usually correct about them. Regardless of whether or not you like the facts, you can't fault someone for saying what you don't like to hear if you aren't willing to check up and make sure that they aren't lying to you. Then if you still don't like it, go elsewhere.

What I don't understand is why people who already know that they don't like these two as commentators normally, watched their coverage to begin with. It's not like there wasn't an alternative. In fact there was so literally an abundance of alternatives that I just stopped watching TV for the week of the DNC and RNC. They are too much of horse and pony show for me to begin with and not enough information about either set of candidates.

To those who say they'll miss Chris and Keith -- read the link closely

Griffin said Matthews and Olbermann agreed with the decision to change their roles, characterizing it as a shift... Phil Griffin said that rather than pull his stars back, he wanted to lift the "restraint" imposed by their roles as straight news anchors. "I want them to be totally comfortable," he said. Adding Gregory to the mix as "the man in the middle" will allow the network to "take the best of MSNBC and NBC News," he said.

Olbermann had no business being an anchor for political coverage. A commentator? Yes. But he's biased (leftist) to his core. Matthews, while noticeably Obama-leaning, was tolerable, save for his penchant for interrupting his guests before they could complete their answers to his questions. I won't miss either and won't seek them out in their other time slots. Both MSNBC and its viewers will be better served by David Gregory.

Too bad - shows how easily the networks can cave when the pressure gets really tough. Where's Murrow when we need him? If they really want to get rid of the fighting, then Morning Joe needs to go - Joes' display when he yelled at David Shuster was so far beyond what makes for a good news it was really poor taste. I sure hope they keep Rachel Maddow's show going - she hasn't even begun!

I don't know what's funnier: MSNBC's headlines saying these two buffoons are being "shifted" (not fired) or the cries and wails of the socialists who will actually miss these two. Take heart, socialistas: it's the money...if these two were #1 in ratings they'd still be there. Adios.

I always thought news reporters were taught not to exhibit bias regardless of their personal opinions, but these two clearly did not play by those rules. I think it is great that they aren't covering this in such a high profile way anymore. I am an Obama supporter, but I still found them to be condescending and obnoxious. The media should not be who decides this election!

I'm glad that they were replaced. A newsreporter, especially an anchor, is supposed to use objectivity in their reporting, that means being unbiased in their observations of events they cover. Olbermann was EXTREMELY biased during his coverage of the Republican Convention. I think Matthews did a better job of trying to look for the highlights of that convention, but his bias was not easily masked. It makes it very difficult for independents or the undecideds, like myself, to weigh both candidates and the issues when such blatant favoritism takes place on the air.

It's fine for Olbermann and Matthews to have their own opinions, but they should not foist them on the American people in an obvious attempt to sway the vote! I find it VERY offensive!
